Please allow me to share with you one of my early frustrations from around 12 years ago
when I was trying to lose a 3 stone following the birth of my daughter Georgina.
I thought the solution was ‘The Gym’
I was living in Milton Keynes at the time and booked a tour around Virgin Active in the Ski Dome.
It was lovely.
New machines.
Nice big changing rooms.
Hairdryers and fluffy towels.
I signed up there and then.
and 6 months later had lost nothing!!
Maybe 3-4lbs.
I mean it was a nice place to visit.
But it was actually quite soul less – what I mean is that there was no real community feel.
And I wasn’t really sure what I was meant to be doing.
I wanted to try and use the free weights but was a bit intimidated by the ‘gym bros’ grunting and growling.
Sometimes I would lose motivation and not visit for a few weeks, and no one followed up with me to see why.
Just to be clear – I am not passing the blame for my lack of results on to Virgin.
It was my responsibility.
But it just wasn’t the best solution for me at that part of my journey.
It was then 2-3 years later that me and my husband set up Fitter Body Ladies.
I wanted to set something up that offered all of the things that I was looking for at the time.
I discovered that it takes more than nice new machines and fluffy towels to actually see results.
Most ladies need a professional coach.
That will help them with not just their exercise, but their nutrition and their focus and motivation as well.
That is there to support them every day if needed.
And to offer all of this without having to pay premium prices for a 1-2-1 Personal Trainer.
The only way that this could work was if we offered small group personal training instead – with the group being made up of ladies of a similar age with similar goals.
We’ve just created something that I was desperately looking for back in 2009.
And we’ve since helped thousands of ladies to achieve their goals whilst having fun and making new friends.
These days I’m much more comfortable in a big corporate gym.
I’ve lost all of that weight.
I’m educated and qualified as a Personal Trainer and so know how to lift weights.
I know about nutrition and what to eat to support my goals.
And I’m no longer intimidated by that manly free weight section.
But for ladies that are anything like what I was like back in 2009, the gym is not the place to go to expect to see results. It just isn’t.
