“What’s the best way to lose weight?” – one of the most common questions that I get asked.

By ladies that are absolutely fed up of years of yo-yo dieting.

I used to be that lady as well 10-15 years ago – and it was exhausting.

For me, it used to go something like this….

Get the latest copy of ‘Cosmopolitan’ magazine (is that mag still going?)

Do the silly little quiz with my husband to check whether we were actually right for each other 🙂

Then read up on the latest celebrity endorsed diet that was working really well.

That typically involved starving yourself for 6-8 weeks by using meal replacement shakes or something like the Cambridge Diet.

Losing a load of weight.

Coming off the diet.

And then within 3 months putting all that weight back on……plus a bit extra.

This completely messed up my metabolism as during the above process, whilst losing weight I was losing my good quality lean muscle mass as well as some of my stubborn body fat.

But when I put the weight back on, it was all fat.

It’s a nightmare scenario that I see so many ladies caught up in themselves.

And when I started my fitness business back in 2012, this was the main problem that I wanted to help fix.

So back to the original question.

“What’s the best way to lose weight?”

This isn’t something I came up with, but it is something that is easy to visualise and understand.

There are 5 key components, in order of importance.

  1. Calorie deficit
  2. Protein Intake
  3. Resistance training
  4. Sleep
  5. Cardio

Things like the Cambridge Diet focus on calorie deficit and nothing else. Which is why they do not work long term.
